\nI have a question
\nAbout this amendment to the Constitution.
\nThere seems to be confusion,
\nabout it\u2019s inclusion.
\nLet there be no illusion
\ntoday\u2019s policy is a delusion
\nof its purpose, its intention;
\nA justification
\nthat illustrates collusion.
\nPlease clarify the motivation
\nof these words in need of a transfusion;
\na reminder that they are
\nfor the people,
\nby the people,
\nso why then are the people
\ndying in a frequency that we\u2019ve never seen?
\nShattering a families dream
\nof the things that could have been;
\nif not for this \u201cmisunderstood\u201d teen
\n(more accurately defined a fiend).
\nAnd we are left with the task to glean
\nwould these word \u2018er be written if to mean
\nyour musket would become an AR-15?
\nSo we watch as society careens
\ndebating if this piece of property outweighs
\nour right to life,
\nour right to liberty,
\nour pursuit of the right of happiness.
\nThe faces of this movement wet and scared.
\nTheir ears brim with offers of thoughts and prayers.
\nThe journey of the survivor is filled with stares
\nof those who, to your face, profess that they care.
\nUntil a time or place would dare
\ntheir truest heart to be laid bare;
\nin reaction to this evil slayer
\nand forced to show their inner player.
\nHiding behind opinions they claim are layered
\nas party lines draw a democracy in need of repair.
\nAnswers are shouted but rarely heard:
\nTrust the NRA!
\nTrust the PTA!
\nNo, trust the eyes of the child looking up to you!
\nThe sadness and anger of our sons and our daughters,
\nsent to school, concert, club-not sent to slaughter.<\/p>\n
Their lives not meant as political fodder
\nin the blue and red chambers teeter totter.
\nEach tragedy creating another pot stirred
\nwhere officials feel the fire beneath growing hotter.
\nIf you don\u2019t make a change, you\u2019re no better than the plotter…
\nso your vote has been sought ma\u2019am, unless you\u2019ve been bought sir.
\nWho\u2019s interests are you fighting for when
\nmoney talks,
\nthe media talks,
\nbut there is no straight talk and no one is listening.
\nWords spoken over one another leave no room for debate.
\nDeaf and inert to the pleas of the irate
\nwith needed assurance our world is not lost to hate.
\nAdd 17 taken and again we\u2019re too late,
\nNow more than ever we can\u2019t sit and wait.
\nParalyzed by a law that we must antiquate;
\nre-amend our outlook- refuse to accept this as fate.
\nIt\u2019s time to prioritize the right to protect, not mutilate.
\nWe promise not to succumb or be forced
\ninto the darkness,
\ninto the despair,
\ninto the shadows by the elected.
\nThis cannot be the intent of the papers you wrote
\nand yet your words are the excuse based in bastardized quotes.
\nFounding fathers find themselves becoming scapegoats,
\nwhilst today\u2019s politicians seem no better than colonial red coats.
\nOur current state reduced to anecdote
\nand the victims sadly a postscript, a side note.
\nThe one thing that keeps our spirits afloat
\nis the minute these children grow up and can vote,
\ntoday\u2019s abusers will lose their seat and their agenda to promote.
\nAnd this new generation can state
\nI have a dream,
\nI have a voice,
\nbut you\u2019ve had an instant, an event, taking it all away.
\nThe reaction, like the gun, is semi-automatic.
\nA self fulfilling prophecy grown from the pragmatic
\nresponses that are static \u2018stead of trying other tactics.
\nLet\u2019s come together with ideas-turn a light on in the attic.
\nBasing policy in common sense is somehow enigmatic
\nto those upon the pedestal who are purely bureaucratic.
\nSpecial interest groups feeding lawmakers like they\u2019re addicts
\nas We the People sit by in a growing sense of panic.
\nAll sides having a measurement for success
\nin rounds per second,
\nin lives per second,
\nSo stop pleading the second and look around.
\nMost of these murderers were seeking fame or a thrill.
\nYet we continue to blame the mentally ill,<\/p>\n
as if the problem of guns disappears with the prescription of pills.
\nWithout a capable weapon there\u2019s less opportunity to kill,
\nand yet there\u2019s dissension about creating a bill
\nthat makes obtaining guns harder, requiring training, or skill.
\nWas this what you pictured when you inked up your quill?
\nFear not. There\u2019s a new revolution- we\u2019ve had our fill.
